My Obligatory Best of 2014

Clouds roll in as a Oscar Statue sits on

There was a rumor going around a few months ago about a Best of 2014 Reactosphere Blog Awards or something like that. Alas, I haven’t seen this yet, but it may still come true. It would, of course, be a superb treat to get another one of Radish’s Anti-Progress Reports. Alas, no news on that yet either. But some folks are highlighting some their best stuff this year. Seeing as it is good and proper to take honest stock of one’s achievements from time to time, and New Years is as good a time as any to do so, I thought I’d join in. As is often the case, what one thinks of as one’s best stuff may not be corroborated by others. No matter. Certainly, it is nothing personal.

I was not a particularly diligent blogger this year and aside from my on-again/off-again Week in Reaction reports (currently on) contributed quite little to the Wider (Neo)Reactosphere. So this will be a blessedly short post…

January 2014 featured what may have been my best post ever: Democracy and the Occult Arts—an extended meditation on the BBC Documentary Century of the Self, the dark forces that shape the behavior and attitudes of people, and how Neoreaction might be positioned to turn these forces toward some good. Or at least stop them being used for quite so much bad.

Also from January was Reactionary Kōans in which I just pasted a lot of awesome stuff Konk was tweeting.

I tried taking on some Jewish Questions this year: one, two, and three. I’ve answered them to my own satisfaction. But many will not be satisfied with those. It is neither my job, nor is it even desirable, to keep all potentially interested parties happy.

Thinking about Jewish Questions led me in March to postulate A Reactionary Oath, which led to a much better organized, thanks to Stirner, permanent page: The Reactionary Oath. (Still not sure the “The” is appropriate there, but it’s all a work in progress.)

Of Sluts and Daughters and Tuition Costs was a diatribe against modernity through the lens of Miriam Weeks, aka. Belle Knox. I am usually at my best when screaming about things I care about, and I have five daughters to care about. It got a fair amount of attention outside the usual sphere and I hope it wasn’t just because it had a cute picture of Ms. Knox.

April brought a post On Sex Eros reconstructed from some ask.fm answers.

Neoreaction’s Darkest Power—probably one of my stronger “theory” pieces—talks about the power of neoreactionary thought to slip past progressive defense (thought-crime) mechanisms and in certain cases deal a lethal blow to the memeplex.

The buildup in late May of You-know-what-gate was not a pleasant time for me, but generated an amazing amount of traffic on this blog, and may in some strange way have served to strengthen the Incipient Neoreaction.

In June, some thoughts on rebranding Neoreaction (e.g., to Menciism) generated some interesting but tabled-for-now discussion.

Another rant: What Sex Realism Should be Teaching Us About “Youth Ministry” (Except Nobody’s Listening) is a piece I still say “Amen!” to.

FQ_640From July through October, I fell into a deep blog funk related to IRL problems. It was kicked off by the untimely death of a car. Henry Dampier gave me a kick in the ass to at least get back to doing Week in Reaction which works (it is said) as a sort of social bonding agent in this often fractious sphere. I’ve been at that ever since, tho’ trying to post by Thursday has only rarely been achieved.

My Tick Generation Warfare post, addressed primarily to “within the family”, is not terribly strong one, but it came from my heart.

2014 has been a good year for The Reactosphere®. Nick Land’s Prophecy has not (apparently) come to pass. In many ways, often through fits and starts and restarts, Neoreaction has become stronger, fitter, and more cohesive. I hope even he is not too disappointed.

Here’s to a very happy and reactionary 2015!

If I have not seen as far as others, it was because giants were standing on my shoulders.

  1. It is ‘Belle’ Knox. And I’m really not trying to be a jerk. This is a great blog.

[Ed. Thanks for the proofread. And thanks for not being a jerk! ;-)]

  2. Wait. I’m good at doing something there are already too many of? Maybe I’m too good at it then!!!

No enemies to the right. I’ll second (and third) that. But of course that doesn’t mean I’ll play in the same sandbox necessarily.

It was a very good article, but I admit that the picture was my favorite part.

    Happy New Year.
