Another Reason for Hope: Reactionary Youth

Hourglass from Wikimedia Commons One of the most encouraging aspects of The Reaction® is the sheer number of young people involved. If I had to guess, I’d say fully 50% of all the light (and 95% of all the heat) produced in the Reactosphere is being produced by people well under 30.

The following is a list that I just threw together off the top of my head…

  • Scharlach, neoreactionary linquist and linguistic neoreactionary, proprietor of Habitable Worlds, age 26 (gross est.)—set neoreactionary world on fire, may have actually brought it into conscious existence, with his Very. First. Blog post
  •

  • Athelron and Michael Anissimov (inter alia) of More Right, ages unknown (but probably low)—high theory of neo-reaction with feet firmly planted in history and tradition and none of the goofiness that tends to trouble some older reactionaries.
  •

  • Bryce Laliberte, Anarcho Papist, age 21—college senior with feet in economics and philosophy (nice combo), toiled in relative reactionary obscurity apparently for over four years prior to 2013. One of the top thinkers in the neo-reactionary world.
  •

  • Karl Friedrich Bötel, of Unamusement Park and now editor-in-chief of Radish Magizine, age 23-24 (est.)—Jim Donald once described him as the new Moldbug, to which I can add nothing that is not already well-known
  •

  • Wesley Morganston, aka. Nydrwracu, age 19-20—linguistic hobbyist, serious thinker, child genius, and major contributor to the fantastic new zine Theden
  •

  • Aaron Jacob Clarius, self-described adolescent curmudgeon, age 20 (est.)—like Moldbug a poet, and contributor to the fantastic new zine Theden
  •

  • Avenging Red Hand, age known to me but privately, under 21—Orthodox, abjures neo-reactionary label, very thoughtful in religion as well as political economy
  •

  • Francis St. Pol, age ~21—one of Moldbug’s software (SW) cadre, recent visitor to Casa Estebanos and wise way beyond his few years, futuristic tradtionalist (or is that traditional futurist?)
  •

  • Raptros, age 23—another of Moldbug’s SW cadre, whom I have described as “in a hurry”, but demonstrates deep understanding of the ills of modernity
  •

  • Viking Manx, aka. Gaelic Norseman, age 21-24 (est. [possibly very bad est.])age not under 30 but young at heart—hasn’t graduated to a blog yet (only tweets), but says a lot of smart stuff, needs more bytes;
  •

  • Amos & Gromar, both 21—haven’t read too much of them yet, but what I have has been smart and provocative
  •

  • Casey Ann, age 20—not all reactionary thinkers are men, missed out on her chance to become (married, traditionalist) teen mother, but a bright and sane future surely awaits
  •

Whom have I missed?

When I look at that list, I see a lot of talent… and a lot of hope for the future of reaction.

If I have not seen as far as others, it was because giants were standing on my shoulders.

I’m pretty sure this is wrong… I remember reading something from him showing him to be a couple years older than I am and I’m 29.

  2. @Bryce thanks. I’ll make the appropriate edits. Speaking of homeschooled, all my kids are, but not in so much a hurry as others. My eldest is about 22.

@Randy: Just imagine how old it makes me feel!!!

Theden is seriously good. I cannot overstate that. It seems to be targeted to the pre-reactionary public (libertarians, techies, disaffected white/Asian males) and needs to get out there.

  3. Maybe you should put a “W” after some and a “C” after for whippersnapper and curmudgeon, to differentiate the prodogies of the movement from the elders.

  4. I’m 20, actually.

It doesn’t strike me as all that surprising that so many of us are young. Many my age (perhaps even the majority) look at the world and realize that perhaps the underlying assumptions our society makes about the world are off.

A huge swath of the population under 30 is already pre-reactionary. They just need a little push.

One thing–since our ruling Boomer elite is so contemptible and despicable, say ” Don’t trust anyone over 50!” Make exceptions when necessary.

Okay, interest piqued, so what percentage of under 30s would you say are awakened and reactionary, and what percentage are pre-reactionary?

And do many young white people recognize and resent the narrative that we are to blame for all the world’s woes? I mean, that’s basically the only message they’ve ever seen out of the cathedral for their entire lives. I’m wondering if they pretend to be for multiculturalism, diversity, and PC publicly, but amongst themselves they seethe with anger and resentment about such blatant bullshit.

I am older than you guys, which is why I ask. I would love to have hope for younger generations.

  8. Get the word out on reaction. Buzz Buzz Buzz. It’s new..you know. quite serious.
This is the most original thinking in 100 years or more. And Moldbug was the one to explain why conservatism doesn’t quite make sense – or ever win.
    Conserve what?

  9. Conserve what indeed? Reaction is, of course, not new. But new people seem to be discovering it, much to the chagrin of the Inner and Outer parties. If you wish to defend the latter, then the onus is on you to show one thing that has actually been by them conserved. As it stands, the Inner Party lights fires and the Outer supresses them with gasoline.

  10. Honestly, any percentages I could give would probably be completely off the mark. What I can say is that, from my vantage point in young Brahmin culture, I see a lot more people getting sick of the liberal ideologies that we’ve been fed. I’ve run into people who’ve never read any from this part of the internet say highly reactionary things (i.e listening to one liberal-minded fellow defend gay marriage one minute and then lay out why he thinks black are far more racist than whites are the next, hearing black students defend George Zimmerman’s innocence…etc). If we define reactionary as “reads certain blogs” then there are indeed very, very, few of us. However, the number of people figuring out some of these concepts on their own is growing. I’m assuming that if this sort of thing is happening at a liberal-arts college in the Northeast then it must be happening with my peers everywhere.

Now I could be mistaken, and my previous comment might be incorrect. It is a statistical fact that most young people are liberal, after all. But I can’t help but see that more and more young people are getting fed up. The next 5-10 years, I believe, will lead to a rapid increase in the number of young reactionaries out there.

I guess one way to tell that the tide is turning is if you hear things said now that 10 years ago wouldn’t have said for fear of being labeled a racist. When the severely overplayed white racism trope loses its sting because it’s regarded as foolish and false, the game will be won. I think we’re moving in that direction. They no longer have a monopoly on message and info in the internet age. They know this. They will seek to impose “hate speech” laws on the internet. It’s the next logical step for them.

  13. Oh, thank you. Somehow I almost missed this for two days in my stats.

Ooh, badb-catha.tumblr.com, one of the founders of “Party Hats and Jack Boots,” is my fellow INTJ woman blogger! I love her mind. There are quite a substantial number of reactionaries on Tumblr, where one will, however, find more vulgarity and less religion. Another favorite blogger of mine is zerogate.tumblr.com, one of the few sane Swedes left I think. 🙂 He’s just over 30.

  15. Not a bad estimate at all. You’re off only by 4 years, my good fellow. On which side those 4 years belong, I’ll let you decide . . . Although the fact (which I’ve mentioned before) that I’m in the advanced stages of grad school should make it obvious.

[Added: Also, in contrast to Raptros, you are apparently not in a hurry!!]

  19. My guess is that there are a lot of people out there, young and not so young, who have formed their own reactionary belief systems in isolation, not realizing that there’s anyone out there like themselves. Many probably consider themselves failed liberals, not knowing what else they could possibly be. They’re too bad for heaven (i.e., they find themselves at odds with many of the primary points of the liberal dogma), but too good for hell (i.e., they reject the oily dimwittedness of the “conservatives”). That was sort of my story, but then one day I stumbled into the reactionary corner of the internet completely by accident. Was I ever surprised. I just as easily could have missed a turn and never found my way here, so maybe someone ought to put up a beacon or something for those still lost in the wilderness.

There’s a lot of great raw energy and enthusiasm among the reactionary bloggers on Tumblr. They’re smart, funny, passionate, and always interesting. Casey Ann mentioned badb-catha.tumblr.com. Her blog is a good place to start.

  20. I’ve been following reactionary blogs for six months now, before which I was a straightforward nationalist from a small European country. I’m 17. This is not at all uncommon. See Generation Identitaire. I also recall a certain Demos survey which found that out of ~400,000 right-wing “likes” on nationalist Facebook pages, 1/3 were from men between 20 and 30 and another 1/3 from men under 20 (or something like that). The Youth are not lost.

  21. @Conan: Glad to have you on board. The power force does seem to be losing its grip on the young.

@Argus: Our entire western culture (such as it is) has been designed around making good liberals out of everyone. Not becoming liberal (i.e., mainstream) is a result of multiple failures and probably related to a slight evolutionary defect. The freaks are the only ones immune to it. Hopefully the freaks will make lots of babies and raise them well.

  23. Count me in as well though only as a lurker and commenter in my 20s.
I don’t think I have much original or insightful to actually blog about.
My progression went from neocon -> reason.com libertarian -> ron paul libertarian -> reactionary with libertarian sympathies.

I would also be a party-pooper and caution people to remember to ONLY target the remnant Brahmin young. We’re not out to ever convert ‘the masses.’ The masses are a corruption. Target the best and the brightest among the disaffected and disillusioned.

  24. @Vimothy: Interesting quote. Youth, so far as it means a lack of maturity is indeed a pathology, adolescence, overcome by natural development. I don’t think that’s the kind King Solomon was thinking of when he advised, “Rejoice in the wife of your youth.”

@Contemplationist: Welcome to the club. Yours didn’t veer too far from my own path. I couldn’t disagree more, however, about only targeting Brahmins and not converting the masses. All people, especially men, especially Vaisya men, need a transcendent purpose for their own good, for the good of their women and the good of the whole society. And HD porn and Doritos ain’t workin’ out too well for them.

  25. Thanks. I understand and agree that they need a better lifepath and the restoration of traditional folkways will help with that. The bright Vaisya youth can definitely be brought on board. What I meant was to not convert this to a ‘mass’ movement. Whoever can rise up to the standards should do so. However, I don’t think that conversion to the whole viewpoint is even possible for anyone below certain IQ in the current poisonous environment created by Cathedral institutions. When the elite ideology changes, the masses will change accordingly.

  26. Pure Vaisya movement = Hitler. That should be avoided. But a pure elite movement… well that’s what the Cathedral’s been doing for at least 100 years. There should a noblesse oblige among the elites. As I said on Twitter:

  27. Indeed so, Mr Steves; I just thought I’d throw it out there. Incidentally, if you enjoy a good reactionary aphorism (and who doesn’t?), Anderson’s book (Pure: Modernity, Philosophy and the One), wherein said quote can be found, is well worth your time.
