To the good people of Syria, whom we’ve no cause to hate; and to the good people of the entire world, whom we’ve no cause to hate:
We, American Reactionaries, stand united in offering our heartfelt apologies for the profoundly misguided actions of our government, which have served only to destabilize others around the world, and get lots of innocent people killed.
Since, WWII, the United States, having taken the banner from her mother Great Britain, has interfered in the natural development of your nations for a variety of reasons. Until 1990, the ostensible reason was to combat the spread of soviet influence. Apart from her much publicized military failures to prevent such a spread, America’s lower profile diplomatic failures to do so were far more commonly the rule of the day.
Since the collapse of Soviet empire, largely under its own weight, and America’s emergence as the world’s only “Superpower”, her ostensible reasons for maintaining global hegemony have only grown more mercurial and less principled. When America’s leaders are not waging an undefinable and uncircumscribable “War on Terror”, they find increasingly specious rationalizations for destabilizing states throughout the world.
I heard today that the Obama administration plans to send military aid to rebel forces in Syria, and is talking about setting up a no-fly zone on their behalf. What FDR could only do under the cloak of absolute secrecy and plausible deniability, Obama can do in the light of day, with the full blessings of the US Journalism Industrial Complex. America has come a long way, Baby!
Apparently the Syrian Civil War has not gone on long enough. The US government fears that the fight may become lopsided. And you know Americans are always suckers for an underdog. So to balance things out, we’ll send the rebels some stuff, just to make it a “fair fight”. And the war will go on… and on… just so a few evangelical progressives can feel good about themselves. America has no plausible side, and no plausible interest, in this War.
Wars happen, always, only, and everywhere, because the outcome of conflict is uncertain. Sadly, the very presence of the US State Department, as sole global hegemon, implementing its wishes principally under its wholly-owned subsidiary The International Community, has made the outcome of most conflicts in the world a lot less certain. But let it be known that the US State Department, in whatever evil it plans today or in the future, is operating without the consent of large fraction of those it governs, and certainly not that of American Reactionaries.
Today, we are all Alawites.
[Addendum: I see that British expat cult leader Nick Land had nearly simultaneous and similar thoughts to my own… must be his powerful mind-control techniques. <oohhmm> </oohhmm>]
It is a truly horrible and hard to understand policy the US and (probably) the UK are following. 93,000+ dead, gutted cities and country and we decide to act because a red-line involving the death of 100-150 people has purportedly been crossed (and of course we don’t want to hear if the rebels have used chemical weapons). It is hard to come to any other conclusion other than perpetuation.

And I’m sure you saw the headline about Obama considering importing a few hundred thousand Syrian refugees to the U.S. . . .

If those few hundred thousand are Christians then silver lining.
I doubt it.
OTOH Islam may be due a 30 years war, in which case we are acting in our interests.
But I doubt it.

Don’t ignore Wag the Dog. It was time to change the conversation away from Obama Scandals.
We’re quite on the ground already I am very reliably informed.

I’m pretty sure there’s nowhere we’re not on the ground. An easy tell is protesters with signs in English.

In the crusades, the Alawites lined up with the Christians, while the Jews, for the most part, lined up with Muslims.
Today, Jews in Israel are lining up against the Alawites, while Christians in Syria are lining up with the Alawites.
They have long memories in the middle east.

Woah! Slow down there. Some of us reactionaries are enjoying the carnage. I suppose it helps that I’m not American, so I’m not paying for it, and that muddle-easterners are inferior races. If it were high-IQ people attacking each other, now THAT would be a tragedy.

Hi Jim: well Americans aren’t paying for it either… our grandchildren are.
Not all “inferior races” are equally inferior. A high-functioning minority will generally rule over a low-functioning majority. That is, unless the US Dept. of State has anything to say about it.

our grandchildren won’t be paying for anything. the system will crash before then. they’ll be fighting the imported third worlders to survive on the scraps from the smoldering ash heap.

I don’t offer a heartfelt apology for anything. Sure, we should just let the Muslims and the chosen kill each other, should have been our policy all along, but I don’t apologize to what the occupational government already did to them. They have been d-bags to us for 400 years. They actually started it. Think about it. Look at what is happening today and imagine it was 400 years ago. It’s the same two groups of people. They’re doing the same things they did then. They just didn’t have suicide vests or drones to do it with.
What I’d be willing to do is offer them the agreement that they could do whatever they wanted to the chosen ones on the condition that they take all their soldiers of Allah or whatever back from England, the U.S.,Greece,Sweden, the entire Western world peacefully, and send them back home to do it.
I’d offer them the choice between that and a radioactive Mecca, because I’m sick and tired of playing games with these people.

Exactly so: Let us fund and arm whichever side is losing, so that both sides lose. Both sides hate us and wish to harm us, so the worse off they are, the better off we are.
